PT Gunung Raja Paksi Implements Zero Waste With Green Aggregate Production

Strive to apply the concept of a zero waste, circular and green environment economy, PT Gunung Raja Paksi Tbk (GRP / GGRP) which is known as the largest national private iron and steel company has succeeded in processing factory waste which has always been an obstacle into a product, namely green aggregate, which has high economic value.

“Besides the image of the largest steel mill in Indonesia, GRP is very concerned about the surrounding environment. Therefore, we utilize the remaining iron and steel production waste (steel slag) to be used as green aggregate.This green aggregate innovation is part of a zero waste philosophy that encourages people to be wiser in maximizing resources, so that waste products can be reused with other functions," said GRP President Director Abednedju Giovano Warani Sangkaeng, Friday (26/26/2020). 8/2022).

Argo, a close call from the President Director of GRP, added, “This will form a circular economy, namely an environmentally friendly system that strongly maintains the value of materials so that they can be used repeatedly with quality that does not decrease. This effort is the implementation of the company's ESG (Environment, social and governance) program.

In producing green aggregate, continued Argo, the steel slag is first separated and then crushed into smaller sizes. This material contains several oxides, such as CaO, MgO, Fe O , MnO and SiO which are beneficial for other industries and the environment.

“We produce five types of green aggregate based on size. The sand type is 0-4 mm, the screening type is 4-8 mm and 8-12 mm, and the split type is 12-20 and 20-50 mm," explained Argo.

According to Argo, applications for the use of green aggregate have been developed in many developed countries. In addition to the construction sector, this product can be used in other fields, such as agriculture.
