Don't Be Afraid to Learn, We Can Do It!

Despite the importance of English language skills, the majority of Indonesians still cannot master it. English is a language used by people from various countries to communicate with each other. In this case, English has a position as the language of instruction because English is used in various fields of work.

Likewise, I am an Indonesian citizen who cannot master English fluently. Because when I was at school, I thought it was just studying and getting good grades. I thought it was finished, but in reality that wasn't the case.

Summer Camp

On October 6 2023, precisely at 14.15 WIB, I received a telephone call from one of the Heads of the BKPSDM Division. When the telephone call was taking place, the atmosphere at work was not very conducive, in the conversation there was an offer to take part in summer camp activities and for some reason I agreed to take part in these activities.

In carrying out this activity, participants are required to use English in communication during the activity. Feelings of insecurity emerged from within my heart, because there were many things I was afraid of, would I be able to communicate in English?? Not being used to using English in everyday life is also one of the factors that causes lack of self-confidence and my little heart says, "Why was it that when I was at school I wasn't really serious about learning English?"

The activity implementation time has started and is scheduled for 3 days. In this activity, I tried to communicate using English, I understood what was said by the organizer and the activity participants, but the feeling of lack of confidence came back, which made it difficult for my mouth to say and answer questions from fellow participants who asked using English. . The feeling of fear of saying something wrong and pronouncing it again becomes a very difficult obstacle to face.

As the activity progressed, on this occasion I received very significant motivation, that don't be afraid of making mistakes when communicating using English, because mistakes will make us learn quickly and improve ourselves to become more fluent in the language. Support from friends and activity mentors poured in to motivate me to be confident. It's like there are two voices inside, between the voice "I can do it" and "just keep quiet instead of saying the wrong thing and you'll be embarrassed."

Activities continue to take place with various activities. On the second day, my confidence slowly began to emerge with the many interactions and tasks that required me to use English. After all the activities were successfully completed, I was grateful, maybe this was God's way of making me better and learn more. Confidence is the main point to have. We have to believe that we can do it, even though at first it will be difficult to make ourselves believe in ourselves.

Learning English can also make your trip easier and more enjoyable. English is a common language in many countries, so you can communicate with more people when traveling. This also makes you more independent and able to explore different places with more confidence

2. Speaking Practice: Try to speak in English as much as possible. Join a speaking group or meet friends who are also learning English.

4. Courses and Tutors: Consider taking an English course or studying with a tutor for more structured guidance.

5. Keep Practicing: Don't be afraid to make mistakes. Keep practicing, and you will get better as time goes by
